St. Andrews School For Girls Coming To Shining Hill

St. Andrew’s College & Shining Hill Community Leads Effort To Open Independent School For Girls In Aurora

The Shining Hill community is expecting to unveil another prestigious school within the next three years. St. Andrew’s College (SAC) has announced plans to open the St. Anne’s School, which will be an independent school for girls in Aurora. SAC has been a place of historical significance in Aurora. Like many other landmarks in the community, it has been a stalwart symbol of excellence. There have been many generations of fine students who have been modelled by SAC’s renowned school in Aurora’s safe and structured educational environment. Now the history of excellence will continue for even more students in the Shining Hill community.

The new St. Anne’s School will be modelled after SAC. However, now the school will be providing an inspirational learning environment for girls and developing the world’s next great generation of female leaders. The school will be under the St. Andrew’s umbrella, which has led an independent school for boys for over a century. St. Anne’s fundamental goals include providing a space for girls to build character, find their own voice, imagine their future, strive for distinction, and ultimately build a better world.

The development comes as Shining Hill prepares families to start a new chapter of their lives. Homeowners can feel assured that there are two ideal educational options steps away from home. Aurora and the Shining Hill community have academic standards that will see your children’s potential is met and ultimately exceeded. The decision to consider such a project was due in part to past SAC parents and community members alongside the Head of the School.

Construction has started at the new school, which will be located on the northwest side of Yonge at 306 St. John’s Sideroad, just a few minutes from St. Andrew’s College. The school is scheduled to open its doors to students in September 2022 or September 2023. SAC is committed to the Shining Hill community and looks forward to sharing the opening day by June 30, 2021.

The announcement was made to the SAC community on Oct. 2 by Head of School, Kevin McHenry, after much discussion with the School’s Board of Governors, Foundation Trustees, and Leadership Team.

“For more than 120 years, St. Andrew’s College has taken great pride in our leadership role as we have turned ‘boys into men’ and strengthened our communities at every level,” said Mr. McHenry. “We recognize our responsibility to evolve and lead in a manner that will meet the requirements of the world for the next 120 years, and providing the same educational opportunities for girls is an important part of that responsibility.”

“People know that their children can flourish both academically and personally here. I am thrilled at the possibility of welcoming an all-girls school to our thriving and vibrant community, and I look forward to working with SAC on growing their legacy here in Aurora,” said Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas.

St. Anne’s School will provide independent school education for girls in Shining Hill and from all over York Region. Classes will be offered in Grades 5 through 9 in its first year of studies. An upper class will be added in each subsequent year of operation until reaching Grade 12. Similar to St. Andrew’s, class sizes will be small with a high teacher-to-student ratio.

In the meantime, enjoy the five-minute video by SAC’s Head of Drama and Film, William Scoular, demonstrating the unique partnership between St. Andrew’s College and St. Anne’s School, unlike anything seen in independent education in Canada.
